Steve Wozniak
- Born: 11th August 1950
- Died: Still living — 76 years old
Steve Wozniak — often known as “Woz” — is a legendary figure in personal computing, best known for designing some of the first successful mass-produced personal computers.
Building Apple from a Garage
In 1976, Wozniak co-founded Apple Inc alongside Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne.
While Jobs focused on vision and marketing, Wozniak was the engineering genius who actually built the machines.
The Apple I and Apple II
Wozniak designed the Apple I, one of the first computers aimed at individuals rather than large organisations.
He followed it with the far more successful Apple II, which became one of the first widely used home computers.
The Apple II helped:
- Popularise personal computing
- Bring computers into homes and schools
- Launch Apple as a major technology company
Engineering Elegance
Wozniak was known for creating efficient, elegant designs — often using fewer components than other engineers thought possible. His focus was always on making technology accessible and affordable.
Life Beyond Apple
After leaving day-to-day operations at Apple, Wozniak stayed involved in technology, education, and philanthropy. He has remained a strong advocate for teaching computing and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
Why Steve Wozniak Still Matters
Steve Wozniak didn’t just help start a company — he helped start the personal computer revolution.
Every laptop, desktop, and even smartphone today owes something to the early work he pioneered.
